Biography

Michael Reining is an associate in Brown Rudnick's Bankruptcy & Corporate Restructuring Practice Group. Michael represents unsecured creditors’ committees, equity interest holders, tort victims, post-confirmation trustees, and foreign representatives in Chapter 11 restructurings, Chapter 15 ancillary proceedings, and related litigation. He also has experience providing counsel to commercial landlords and REITs in connection with retail and restaurant bankruptcy cases across the country.

Michael served as a law clerk to the Honorable Charles Novack, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of California. In law school, he served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Sidney B. Brooks, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Colorado.

Hector DAO: The receivers of Hector DAO in achieving the first Chapter 15 recognition of a foreign main proceeding in which the debtor was a decentralized autonomous organization (DAO), a community-led entity owned by its members on an open-source blockchain.

Barretts Minerals: Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors, comprised solely of asbestos claimants, in the Chapter 11 case of talc miner Barretts Minerals, a subsidiary of Minerals Technologies.

PG&E Corp. and Pacific Gas & Electric Company: Trustee and Claims Administrator of the multibillion-dollar PG&E Fire Victim Trust, which was formed for the benefit of tens of thousands of wildfire victims.

LTL Management LLC: Official Committee of Talc Claimants in the first and second “Texas two-step” Chapter 11 cases filed by LTL Management LLC, a special purpose entity created by Johnson & Johnson.

Shopping center landlords in numerous retail and restaurant Chapter 11 cases, including Barneys, Destination Maternity, Forever 21, GNC, Granite City Food & Brewery, Lolli & Pops, Lucky’s Market, Papyrus, Perkins & Marie Callender’s, Pier 1, Sugarfina, The Paper Store, and TooJay’s.

Judicial liquidator of a European investment fund in his role as foreign representative in Chapter 15 ancillary proceeding.

Chapter 11 trustee for a real estate development company.

Judgment creditor in a dispute involving a real estate parcel in Las Vegas.
