Biography

Emery Lyon is counsel in the Firm’s Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group. Her practice focuses on helping clients involved in employment-related litigation or investigations and proactively assisting employers, management and people operations teams to comply with employment laws. Emery advises and counsels on a wide range of employment matters, including company policies, handbooks, employee relations, employee discipline, complaints and investigations, termination issues, reasonable accommodations requests, M&A activity, wage and hour compliance, and employee leave and benefits. Emery’s background as a litigator shapes her advice and helps to inform clients regarding compliance and risk management.

Emery has experience litigating sensitive employment disputes in federal and state court, including claims of sexual harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour violations, and breach of contract, responding to administrative charges filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and other federal, state, and local administrative agencies, and assisting clients through employment investigations. She also advises on and helps craft employment documents like handbooks and policies, employment contracts, offer letters, restrictive covenant agreements, and separation agreements, taking into consideration each employer’s specific needs and concerns.

Emery also regularly incorporates pro bono matters into her practice. She has helped numerous small and emerging businesses in the New York and northeast areas with various employment-related compliance matters and investigations.

Prior to joining Brown Rudnick, Emery was an employment attorney with firms in New York and Savannah, Georgia. She also worked for the New York City Law Department as an assistant corporation counsel in its labor and employment law division.

Conducted interviews on behalf of New York hospital system relating to nurse’s sexual harassment allegations against doctor.

Conducted investigatory interviews in response to sexual harassment complaints against car dealership and waste management company.

Conducted wage and hour compliance audits for various companies.

Drafted handbooks and employment policies for numerous companies.

Prepared sexual harassment trainings for various companies.
