Biography

Joanna Curtis is an associate in the Firm's Litigation & Arbitration Practice Group in London.

Joanna has broad experience advising on complex and high value disputes across a number of disciplines, including litigation, arbitration and regulatory investigations. She has worked with clients in multiple sectors, including financial institutions, corporates, NGOs and individual professionals: including where litigation funders and/or insurers are involved. She has a particular interest in civil fraud litigation and has recently assisted as a “supervising solicitor” for a search and seizure order.

Joanna is committed to pro bono work, with experience advising at law centres, as well as in respect of special educational needs appeals, social security appeals and asylum family reunion.

Joanna speaks Russian, Spanish and French, and has lived and studied in Moscow and Madrid.

Prior to joining Brown Rudnick, Joanna was an associate at Ashurst LLP in London.

Acting as supervising solicitor for a search and seizure order at residential premises.

Acting for large groups of claimants in claims against public companies under s.90 and 90A of FSMA 2000.

Representing solicitor clients in defence of a freezing injunction, disclosure order and contempt proceedings, for alleged breach of trust and dishonest assistance.

Advising an international humanitarian NGO in relation to the misappropriation of funds from its cash transfer programme in Africa.

Advising a former bank employee in preparation for a potential extradition request from Russia.

Representing financial professionals in relation to investigations by the FCA and U.S. Department of Justice, including forex matters.

Advising on the enforceability of an ICSID arbitration award.

Advising a U.K.-headquartered multinational and its Spanish business in relation to an investigation by the Spanish competition authority.

Advising a French company on the EU and U.S. sanctions implications of a contract with an Iranian distributor.

Acting in an arbitration for breach of contract and company law matters, related to striking off and restoration. The arbitration was appealed in Bridgehouse (Bradford No. 2) Limited v BAE [2019] EWHC 1768.
